Roadie Beckons For Connection To Industry

Jared Nelson, director and founder of Perth’s, Behind the Wall (BTW), is on a mission to help bands and lovers of music from across Australia and the world reach their music industry goals.
Mr Nelson has been a concert lighting technician “roadie” for over ten years and has heard the same complaint time and time again from the music industry. He is frustrated that students can spend years and thousands of dollars on music industry training courses and at the end, they still not industry ready.
“All too often, what is being taught in these main stream courses is great, but it’s not preparing graduates for jobs in the industry. For ten years I have heard the same complaint, that graduates of music industry courses are not ready for industry”, says Mr Nelson.
With this problem at the front of his mind Mr Nelson is dedicated to the solution. Combining his skills and qualifications as a musician, roadie, trainer, facilitator and life coach, Mr Nelson is redefining the approach to training and coaching through intensive skills and knowledge short courses that are directly relevant to current industry jobs and skills.
“The music industry is so fast paced and ever changing that a bulk of experience is learnt on the job. Behind the Wall offers short sharp course that give you the basics then directs you to the right people to expand your knowledge and start earning money.” Mr Nelson goes on to say “Our motto is Real skills, Real Jobs and that means our main focus is on getting people industry ready and career minded so that we can mentor you for years to come”
Working with and observing thousands of bands and concerts, such as Pink, Daft Punk, The Big Day Out, has left Mr Nelson with a great depth and understanding of the professionalism that is required to make it in the industry and how important relationships really are, not a head full of knowledge with no practical industry experience.

Jared Nelson is a 35 year old father of one who has a passion to help people become better versions of them self. Over the years he has gathered knowledge from many careers in many industries until he found his dream job as a lighting technician and a Roadie in Australia’s live events industry. Jared successfully ran a freelance lighting and events services for over 5 years before finding a renewed passion for training and development. In 2017 Jared launched, Behind the Wall. The business offers training, coaching, mentoring and consulting to the live events and other semi-skilled industries.
